Earlier this year, SWE Homes sold and financed this building in Acres Homes to a rising Jamaican chef. Chef G, as Gareth Powell is known, took his popular food truck business and moved it to 2213 S. Victory Drive. The restaurant opened in early August. He serves amazing jerk sandwiches, fish fritters, rum-soaked plantains, and other West Indian dishes.
After moving to Houston, Powell launched Jamaica Pon Di Road in 2017 as a food truck and quickly gained a loyal following. As active members of the community, Powell and his wife Danielle provide school supplies to their hometown of Clarendon, Jamaica. They also use the food truck to feed members of Houston's unhoused population. They also hope to start an outreach program for hungry and unhoused folks in Acres Homes.
